Capstone Report #19 / Way back home

All kids walk back home from school.

Kyle' home-stay locates 10 minutes away from school.
Ryan's home-stay locates 30 minutes away from school.

It is nice-relaxing time for kids to walk back home with their friends after school.

Of course we play with snow.

We see lots of attractive icicles on the way. But we cannot touch them.

Scary!

The senior citizens are outside standing at the corner of block or next to the stoplight to protect their local children. So is dog.

Capstone Report #18 / Visiting Superintendent of Chitose board of education

Left: Host School Principal Right: Superintendent

We visited the superintendent to show our gratitude to let us stay at one of their public schools. He interviewed both kids and me and said we were all welcome to have in this community.

There is no way to succeed this capstone with their understandings.

Thank you Chitose, Hokkaido.

Capstone Report #17 / Healthy School Lunch

The school lunch will be provided by the local city. The nutritionist try so hard to have all children to eat healthy meals. Most children at this classroom are not picky.

Children have to serve their meal by themselves.

One meal is $3.22.

Rice

Miso soup with lost of veggies.

edible brown algae(dried sea weed), bean, konjac(processed product of potato)
You might never seen it before.

Chicken meat ball
This is the easiest food to eat for all kids.

Capstone Report #16 / Presentation in Japan

We introduced our school life to Japanese students at the host school.

They all like our presentation.

Capstone Report #15 / Kendo (Japanese Swordsman ship)

The homeroom teacher used to play Kendo when he was in College.

He suggested me to let them have Kendo experience as a lesson of learning Japanese tradition.

He said "It does not make sense if you hold the sword like Star Wars Characters"

You can see the most practical form on the second picture.

Concentrate!

Capstone Report #13 / At the class

The homeroom teacher has been so nice to both kids. We do not feel like we are the guest.
We are part of them.

He accepted my school visit offer right away
even in the busiest time of the Japanese School Year.

He asked Ryan to write the Math answer on the black board.

Capstone Report #10 / Brave! buddy!

It is actually healthy school lunch. But Natto is too Japanese. I wonder how many Western kids can eat Japanese School Lunch.

Capstone Report #7 / Otaru Canal

Otaru is very famous for its historical canals that show their old time prosperity. They used to have a huge trading business and a fishing business. It is like Astoria, Oregon. Now it is well-known as a sightseeing place near Sapporo.

There are lots of classical warehouses along the canel. They all became restaurants to entertain visitors.

Capstone Report #4 / Otaru alleys

The shaveling snow is the scale for being a good Hokkaido citizen.
But they are obviously having a difficult time for that this year.

The guy cleaning the hanging icicles on the gutters.

No place to dump snow. The gigantic icicles might break the windows.
